Our Facilities

The Internal Medicine Service and DIGEST clinic are very happy to accept referrals not only in gastroenterology, but in all areas of small animal internal medicine!

We see patients with acute and chronic problems of the gastrointestinal system every day. Problems can originate from all areas of the digestive tract (from swallowing problems and vomiting to diarrhoea, weight loss and difficulties passing stools) and can hence have a large variety of causes. To investigate these fully and appropriately for each individual patient, we tap into the expertise and the support from other specialist areas, all within reach and on site! This includes diagnostic imaging, anaesthesia, oncology, soft tissue surgery, clinical pathology and pathology and enables us to provide first class care to dogs and cats.

The facilities and the equipment at the Hospital for Small Animals are outstanding and include:

  • In-house laboratory and Easter Bush Pathology
  • Digital radiography including dynamic digital radiography (live fluoroscopy)
  • Ultrasonography including contrast-enhanced ultrasound examinations (CEUS)
  • Veterinary video endoscopy with narrow-band imaging (NBI)
  • Advanced imaging modalities including computer tomography (CT) and MRI
  • Separate wards for dogs and cats
  • Dedicated critical care unit
  • Dedicated consultation rooms for nutritional support appointments

Our in-house laboratory provides quick and reliable results for in-house patients (haematology, biochemistry, coagulation parameters, blood gases and electrolytes, urinalysis, microscopic examinations).

Our radiography department is fully digitalised with all studies being stored on a central computer (PACS) with several digital viewing stations.

Ultrasound is an important tool to non-invasively assess inner structures of organs.

We are proud to be able to offer upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy with a new state-of-the-art video endoscopy unit (Storz Veterinary Endoscopes), that provides endoscopes (cameras) specifically designed for small animal patients and superior imaging quality.

Susan Campbell, our nutrition nurse, runs separate appointments for pets with special dietary needs through the Fit for Life – nutrition care clinic.
