Speaker bios:

Katie Beckmann
Katie is a Lecturer in Wildlife Health and Conservation Medicine at the R(D)SVS and a veterinary specialist in wildlife population health. She joined the School in 2019 having previously worked in conservation organisations in England (see here for her bio). Katie will be talking about a review of health issues in migratory species which she and R(D)SVS colleagues recently undertook for the Convention of Migratory Species (CMS) of the United Nations. She will describe how this review and a related new CMS Resolution and Working Group are promoting One Health approaches to prevent and mitigate disease problems in wildlife as well as disease transmission between wildlife, domestic animals and people.
 
Gidona Goodman
Gidona Goodman joined the conservation science group in July 2018 as a lecturer in Wildlife Health and Conservation Medicine. She has been with the University of Edinburgh in a variety of roles since 1999. These included teaching undergraduate and post graduate courses, clinical duties at the hospital for small animals exotic animal and wildlife unit, clinical duties at Edinburgh Zoo and veterinary support for a number of conservation projects.
She is currently focusing on avian wildlife health and conservation as well as training local scientist in Home Office regulated wildlife field work.
 
Neil Anderson
Neil Anderson is a Senior Lecturer at the R(D)SVS and the Programme Director of the MVetSci Conservation Medicine and MSc One Health programmes. He has a broad range of research interests spanning aspects of epidemiology, wildlife health and One Health. Current areas of focus include trypanosomiasis, raptor health and the health of working dogs in conservation. He also provides veterinary support for conservation and wildlife research projects and is the Chair of the Scientific Advisory Panel for the South of Scotland Golden Eagle Project.
