Professor Liz Baggs has joined the School as part of the Global Academy for Agriculture and Food Security. Image Prior to this Professor Baggs held the Established Chair of Soil Science at the University of Aberdeen, and was Head of the School of Biological Sciences for the last five years. She is a soil biogeochemist, and develops and applies stable isotope approaches to investigate soil processes and plant-soil-microbe interactions. She is currently Vice President of the British Society of Soil Science, and is a member of NERC and BBSRC training and strategy advisory boards. Professor Baggs has a degree in Physical Geography from the University of Bristol, a MSc in Agronomy from the University of Nottingham and a PhD in soil science from the University of Edinburgh in 1997. She then took up a lectureship at Wye College, University of London, and a BBSRC Wain Research Fellowship at Imperial College London, before moving to Aberdeen on a NERC Advanced Fellowship in 2004. I am really excited to be joining the University in this new venture. I look forward to working with colleagues across the University to shape and build the Global Academy, and with a range of national and international partners to help ensure the Academy impacts national and global food security through its education and research. Professor Liz Baggs I am delighted to welcome Liz to the Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Security. Liz has a very strong international profile in soil and environmental science – areas of critical importance in responding to the challenges of global food security and environmental change, and pursuing planetary health. Liz’s experience and interdisciplinary ethos will be a huge asset as we make connections with partners inside and outside of the University.
