Our histology laboratory supports both clinicians within our associated campus-based hospitals clinicians, external veterinary practices and researchers, including those working with small animals, large animals, exotic pet species and wildlife.Our team is highly skilled in the application of a wide range of specialist techniques including histopathology, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry and cryotomy. Bespoke histopathology reports are prepared by veterinary pathologists and residents in veterinary pathology under direct supervision. Samples should be submitted in 10% neutral buffered formalin.Packaging instructions Results will be emailed immediately on completion.For an up-to-date price list please get in touch: Contact us Submission forms Histopathology We process and examine a wide range of formalin-fixed tissues as part of our routine diagnostic biopsy service. The turnaround time is two to three working days, but please note this is based on receipt of small fully fixed samples. Larger specimens requiring additional fixation, dissection or decalcification may result in an extended turnaround time.Our standard routine biopsy service includes tissue processing, haematoxylin and eosin staining and a comprehensive report prepared by a veterinary pathologist. Please note that additional charges may apply for any special stains that may be required following the initial assessment. Any additional charges will be discussed with the submitting clinician prior to processing.We are also able to accept either formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded blocks or previously stained slides for second opinion consultations, including special stains, immunohistochemistry and cryotomy sections.Our histopathology team has extensive experience in research-oriented histopathology as well. Services include trimming, processing and sections of a wide range of formalin-fixed tissues (including decalcification of specimens), as well as the preparation of stained or unstained sections. Immunohistochemistry We perform a wide range of immunohistochemistry services to support diagnostic and prognostic assessment. Cryotomy We provide cryosectioning of flash-frozen, non-formalin-fixed tissues for a variety of applications including rapid turnaround biopsies (for example, in cases of suspected equine grass sickness) and the application of special stains where formalin fixation is not suitable, such as Oil Red O for the identification of lipids.Please note that tissues must be flash frozen at the time of collection for this service.
