Novel Diagnostic Test Development

We offer all healthy dogs a free blood test and urine assessment at their annual vaccination check.

These free tests allow us to detect diseases that are not causing clinical signs at the moment. This can allow DVGP to put in place treatments at any early stage in the disease process which we hope will then lead to better treatment outcomes.

When we perform the free blood test, we will collect enough blood for the diagnostic tests and, with your consent, an additional small amount of blood (never more than 5ml or 2% of blood circulating volume) which can be used in our diagnostic test discovery programme. This resource of stored blood samples from healthy dogs is very helpful when we investigate whether a new test can effectively differentiate between healthy and diseased patients.

Please ensure that you bring in a urine sample from your pet, in a clean sealable tub. Without this sample, we cannot run the blood sample.

In addition to the urine sample, a poo sample would also be very helpful however this is not a necessity for the health screen to go ahead.

If you would like to be involved in this initiative, please ask the DVGP vets or reception for more information.
