Students from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies hosted Fostering Compassion, a unique education initiative that focusses on working with children in foster care and kinship care. Image On Saturday 4th November students from the Dick Vet hosted the Fostering Compassion “Be A Vet For A Day” workshop in the Teaching Building on the Easter Bush Campus. Fostering Compassion is a unique education initiative, that focuses on working with children in foster care and kinship care, to reverse the cycle of abuse. At the workshop, these children and their caretakers got to experience what life is like as a veterinarian. The day was organised and run in the School's Clinical Skills Laboratory, by a dedicated team of veterinary students. At the workshop they took part in a variety of fun experiences, which ranged from monitoring heart rates, to Teddy-Bear Bandaging, as well as learning how to interpret x-rays. With around 20 children in attendance, this is one of Fostering Compassion’s most popular workshops and we'd like to thank our students for their hard work in organising and running the day, as well as Lesley Winton with Fostering Compassion for her organisation of the event. One attendee commented "Today’s vet activity has been brilliant, my granddaughter says she has enjoyed learning to be a vet, I have really enjoyed it too!! I would highly recommend this to everybody" #InspiringStudents Photograph used with kind permission - © JduR Photography Links Fostering Compassion This article was published on 2024-09-02
