Wildcat health

We have been involved in wildcat conservation in Scotland for many years.

The dramatic population decline of the wildcat throughout the 20th century, and subsequent extensive hybridisation with feral cats, has left this, our only remaining native felid, on the brink of extinction.

We provided clinical and scientific veterinary support to the Scottish Wildcat Conservation Action project which ran until 2019. We are currently involved in a NatureScot-led process of updating Scotland’s wildcat conservation strategy.
