Worldwide Subject Ranking

The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021 cover a total of 51 disciplines, grouped into five broad subject areas.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject are compiled annually to help prospective students identify the leading universities in a particular subject. Research citations, along with the results of major global surveys of employers and academics, are used to rank universities.

Consistent Excellence

The School prides itself on world-class teaching, research and clinical care, which is reflected in our consistent success in rankings.

In 2020, the Dick Vet rose in the ShanghaiRankings to second in the world and first in the UK for veterinary sciences, maintained its position as first in the UK in the Guardian League Tables for the fourth year in a row, and came first in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide ranking for Veterinary Medicine for the 6th year running.

Student experience is also highly rated at the School, with a National Student Survey score in 2020 of 95% student satisfaction overall.

The School's world-class research arm, the Roslin Institute, along with Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), was ranked most powerful for veterinary and agricultural research in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF).

This year has been hugely challenging for everyone.  However, this result in QS rankings is an excellent achievement for the School and is testament to the quality of the staff and students in the Dick Vet community
