Frequently asked questions

What sample type do I submit for AGP (+/- SAA)?

A minimum of 0.5ml of serum (or effusion).

What sample type do I submit for TDM?

A minimum of 0.5ml of whole blood EDTA or serum, or lithium heparin plasma.

What should I submit if I want AGP and TDM?

Submit 0.5ml of serum for AGP as well as 0.5ml of EDTA or LH plasma.

When should I sample for TDM?

After 3-5 doses of GS-441524, please sample 3-5 hours post-dose and again ideally 9-12 hours post dose.

How much is AGP (+/- SAA) and TDM?

Each analyte is £25 +VAT, per sample.

What information do I need to provide for TDM?

Please ensure to provide the following information:

  1. Body weight
  2. Dose given mg/kg per dose, frequency of dosing, formulation (liquid or tablet) and supplier)
  3. Time last dose given
  4. Time sample/s taken

How should I submit samples?

Please see our submission page for our submission form and ensure to include all information required. If information is not provided in full, this will cause a delay. If you have a query related to sample type etc please contact ebp.enquiries@ed.ac.uk

How should samples be posted?

Please send all sample types to our Clinical Pathology Laboratory ideally next-day or 1st class delivery to minimise delay. Please note this is a Monday-Friday service.

I have taken a sample over the weekend or OOH, what should I do?

If samples cannot be posted straightaway, please spin down and separate the serum and/or plasma and freeze until samples can be sent. 

When should I get results back?

AGP or SAA is usually reported within 24h of sample receipt . TDM may take up to 7 days.
