The Dick Vet’s ‘Do you have what it takes to be a veterinarian?’ MOOC is proving popular with students from all over the world. Image The Dick Vet is offering three MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) in 2014 and starting on the 19th May, the next one is proving popular with students from all over the world. ‘Do you have what it takes to be a veterinarian?’ is for anyone interested in learning more about Veterinary Medicine, giving a “taster” of courses covered in the first year of a veterinary degree and an idea of what it is like to study Veterinary Medicine. It will be of interest to those considering Veterinary Medicine as a career or those about to embark on their studies, as well as those keen to learn more about this profession generally or who are involved with caring for animals. Over the five weeks the course will provide a taster of the subjects covered during the first year of the degree. It includes information on the profession’s past, present and future, as well as an introduction to body systems, basic animal care, and veterinary professional and clinical skills. Over 4,000 students have so far signed up, already making it a successful follow up to the Equine Nutrition MOOC which ran for the second time earlier this year. In July a third MOOC will run, looking at Animal Welfare and information on all the School’s MOOCs can be found on our website at the links below. The Coursera Partnership These Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are being delivered via the Coursera partnership - a network of leading international universities which offer short undergraduate-level online courses free of charge. If you are interested in the School's MOOCs, more information can be found on the Coursera website where you can also sign up for the courses.
