The Clinical Skills Department is based at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. The team provides a safe and supportive learning environment for students to develop their day one skills. About The aim of the clinical skills department is to deliver excellence in clinical training and education - using a mixture of mannequins, models, simulators and live animals and a team that has a wealth of knowledge and experience including vets, vet nurses and technicians. Our staff The dedicated clinical skills team along with clinicians and nurses in the hospitals provide the practical skills teaching and support to students. Student teaching Throughout the veterinary programme students attend many practical classes where they develop a range of skills in many procedures - from basic animal handling through to more advanced techniques such as suturing and ophthalmoscopy. Projects The team are also continually developing models/simulators for veterinary teaching. As there are not many models/ simulators available to purchase for veterinary teaching, students and staff try to be creative to make models and simulations as realistic as possible.
