Honourary Degrees Celebrated at Graduation

The University of Edinburgh conferred honorary degrees on Dr John Brown and Dr Theo Kanellos at the recent summer graduation ceremony.

On Saturday 5th July Dr Kanellos received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery and Dr Brown received DSc honoris causa.

Dr Kanellos is Director, Strategic Alliances at Zoetis and was the key driver of the five year $2 million partnership that bought together Pfizer Animal Health (now Zoetis), the world’s leading research-based animal health company, and one of the largest veterinary research and education consortiums, the Easter Bush Research Consortium (The Roslin Institute, the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh and SRUC (Scotland’s Rural College) and Moredun Research Institute).

Dr Brown, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, has extensive experience in the life sciences sector. He has chaired and been the director of a number of private sector companies and in the public sector he is a member of the Scottish Science Advisory Council, chairs the Roslin Foundation, co-Chairs the Life Sciences Industry Advisory Board for the Scottish Government and is a non-executive Director of the Technology Strategy Board.
