Trio of fellowships from Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons

Fellowships awarded to three leading vets from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies

Three prominent veterinary surgeons from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies have been awarded prestigious Fellowships.

Professor Lisa Boden, Dr Sarah Taylor and Dr Gemma Pearson were awarded Fellowships of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) in recognition to their outstanding contribution to the veterinary profession.

The three newly appointed RCVS Fellows join the other Fellows at the School and will help advance veterinary standards by providing a resource of independent knowledge for the benefit of the veterinary profession.

Veterinary expertise

Professor Boden, Dean of Veterinary Medicine and Head of School, received a fellowship based on her meritorious contributions to the profession.

As well as being a RCVS Specialist and European Diplomate in Veterinary Public Health and Population Medicine, Professor Boden has a PhD in veterinary epidemiology and a Master of Laws in medical law and ethics.

In addition to her role as Head of School, Professor Boden maintains an active research portfolio in One Health, as well as the translation and communication of science as effective and ethical evidence for policy, contingency planning and emergency outbreak response.

Equine experts

The contribution two equine Specialists at the School’s Dick Vet Equine Hospital have made to the veterinary industry has also been recognised by the RCVS.

Dr Sarah Taylor, Senior Lecturer in Equine Orthopaedics, and Dr Gemma Pearson, Lecturer in Equine Behavioural Medicine, were both awarded Fellowships based on their meritorious contributions to clinical practice.

Dr Taylor is a RCVS Specialist and European Diplomate in Equine Surgery, and a European Diplomate in Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, and her PhD focussed on the novel treatment of tendon disease in horses. Dr Taylor leads the equine advanced imaging team at the Dick Vet Equine Hospital while her research focuses on the prevention of injuries such as fractures and early detection of disease using CT and MRI.

Dr Pearson is a RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Behavioural Medicine (Equine). A recognised expert in equine behaviour and welfare, she has a MScR and a PhD investigating stress in horse’s during veterinary care.
