The Role

Our 53 week Rotating Internship programme provides an opportunity for new graduates or recently-qualified veterinarians to receive high-quality postgraduate training in small animal disciplines under the supervision of experienced clinicians in the R(D)SVS Hospital for Small Animals.

Currently, the Hospital sees 22,500 cases annually across a wide variety of disciplines.

We emphasise gaining practical clinical experience in small animal disciplines by allowing the intern to participate in specialist veterinary disciplines in a teaching and learning environment. A rotating internship can be used as preparation for a Senior Clinical Training Scholarship programme and is a requirement for many Residency programmes.

Our rotating interns spend time in each of our referral services, which include soft tissue & orthopaedic surgery, neurology, internal medicine (feline and canine), emergency and critical care, cardiopulmonary medicine, oncology, anaesthesia, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, and exotic animals & wildlife services.

You will contribute to the out-of-hours service which includes care for patients in the ICU, with support from residents and senior staff, in addition to primary care of our first opinion clinic patients.

Interns will have the opportunity for seven weeks of elective rotations that may be spent on rotations in the veterinary school, or in other centres, by prior agreement. In the past, some interns have spent this time doing research in the Roslin Institute and in affiliated human hospitals.
