Information on tuition fees, funding and living costs.

Tuition Fees

Before you can work out how much you will pay for your programme, you need to know your fee status. 

All candidates applying for either the 4-year or 5-year BVM&S programme as a second or subsequent degree (including graduates from the UK, EU, or EEA) are considered at the Overseas/Full Cost/EU fee rate. 

Deposits are required for all international and graduate students starting the programme. This deposit is only refundable if you change your mind about studying with us within 14 days of payment or you fail to meet the conditions of your offer.

Scholarships

Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies UK Graduate/International Scholarship

The School offers two scholarships for overseas students beginning their studies on the BVM&S. Each scholarship is worth £5,000 per year and is tenable for the duration of their degree programme, subject to satisfactory progress.

IVC Evidensia Ethnic Diversity Scholarship Scheme

This external scholarship scheme is aimed at improving diversity across the Veterinary professions.

Student financial support

Access Awards are non-repayable support based on criteria such as income, background and personal circumstances, and in some cases geographical area.

They are available to new undergraduate students who are UK nationals commencing their first undergraduate degree.

The University's Scholarships and Student Funding team can provide more information on funding opportunities and financial assistance for prospective students.

Additional Costs

In addition to tuition fees, additional costs include equipment and protective clothing: specialised equipment and lab coats (estimated at £150). Extra-Mural Studies (externships) of 30 weeks will also incur additional accommodation and travel costs. Limited grant funding may be available from the University, but is unlikely to cover the full costs of Extra-Mural Studies.

Transport to and from campus

If you are under 22 years old, you may be eligible for free bus travel. 

Otherwise, a monthly bus pass to cover all travel to and from the campus (as well as transport across the city) will cost around £570 per year, which the School will subsidise proportionally in line with your year of study.

Bank Accounts

If you do not have one already or are coming to Edinburgh from abroad, it is very useful to open a bank account once you arrive. For international students this process is not normally available prior to arrival unless an overseas bank branch has a relationship with a UK bank or you open an account with an online bank. Typically, this process can start once you have moved into your accommodation.

To assist you in opening an account, the University can provide you with a Bank Introductory Letter and provide proof of your accommodation in Edinburgh. If you are staying in University accommodation and have checked in, you can download and print a copy of your letter from your MyEd portal. You will need this, as well as other documents, when you attend your first bank appointment to open your account. If you are moving into private accommodation, you will need to apply for a Bank Introduction Letter online.
