Staff and student volunteers are sought to help plant hundreds of trees at the Easter Bush campus in an initiative organised by second year student at the Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Security, Berta Beloviczky.

Berta has organised the delivery of 420 trees, gifted from the Woodland Trust, which will be planted across the campus.

The Agricultural Science undergraduate hopes the surroundings can become more like her Swedish homeland, where walks in the forest are an everyday experience.

When I moved to Edinburgh, I felt like something was odd, but didn't know what until I realised that it was the lack of trees in the landscape. I have a deep connection with nature. For me it is a part of my everyday life to visit the forests that surround the city I live in.

The trees – including hazel, blackthorn, crab apple, dog rose and rowan – will arrive in November. They will need to be planted within a few weeks, and so volunteers across campus will be needed to help plant them!

Staff and students - if you are able to offer a few hours to help plant trees at Easter Bush, please get in touch with Berta at B.Beloviczky@sms.ed.ac.uk or find out more on the Facebook event.
