Nattapong Banterng

PhD student in Genetics and Genomics

I am a PhD student in the conservation science group at the University of Edinburgh, supervised by Prof Rob Ogden. I am funded by a scholarship from the government of Thailand to study the population genetics of the Sunda pangolin.

I completed my undergraduate degree in Forestry at Kasetsart University, Thailand, and my Master's in Environmental Forestry at Bangor University, Wales. Before my Ph.D., I was a Forestry Technical Officer at Thailand's National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department, in Thailand.

My current research focuses on developing a reference DNA database and a DNA toolkit to trace the geographic origin of seized pangolins and investigate the population genetic structure of Sunda pangolins in Thailand. This work aims to enhance management planning and forensic applications for pangolin conservation in Thailand and Southeast Asia.
