Written prescriptions

Yes. The Equine Hospital has its own dispensing pharmacy that is able to supply the medicines prescribed for your horse, pony or donkey. Alternatively, we can provide a written prescription for you at a small charge, and you can buy your horse's medication elsewhere.

If you wish to request a repeat prescription and mediciations from us, please contact our reception team on eqh@ed.ac.uk or call 0131 650 6253. 

Medications are usually available for collection within 48 hours.

Yes. If you order your medications from us, they can either be collected from our reception, or sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery, at a fee of £13.95. Please let our reception team know if you would like your item(s) posted.

We need to examine your pet at least every six months, though this time will vary for the condition prescribed for. The consultation fee will be £45.19 for re-examination, clinical assessment and review of medicine(s).

If you wish to buy medicines for your horse elsewhere, we can write a prescription at the following costs: £21.00 for single item, and £12.50 each additional item.

A written prescription must be requested through our reception team. They are usually ready to be emailed out to clients within 48 hours. To order, please email eqh@ed.ac.uk or call 0131 650 6253. 

We are not able to provide written prescriptions for ‘veterinary specials’ (unlicensed medicines that have been compounded by a ‘specials’ manufacturer), or medicines that we have imported.

Veterinary licensed medicines can be bought from online veterinary pharmacies. Choose one accredited with the VMD.

Human licensed medicines can be bought from community pharmacies, or some online pharmacies may be able to dispense if you contact them.
