A vibrant new mural has transformed the All4Paws charity outreach space at the University of Edinburgh, creating a more welcoming environment for the people and pets who rely on its services. Alumna facilitationThe mural project was facilitated by Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies alumna Lisa Foster, who introduced the opportunity to students studying BA (Hons) Graphic & Communication Design at York School of Art. As part of their Narrative Storytelling module, students were challenged to create artwork that reflected the core values of All4Paws: animal welfare, trust and empathy. To develop their concepts, the students visited the clinic and met with staff to learn more about its work and the people it supports. Drawing on these insights, each student created three original illustrations, which were combined into a gallery-style mural design. The installation was completed over three days, bringing colour, creativity and character to the clinic environment. Meaningful collaborationAndrew Gardiner, founder of All4Paws and Professor of Veterinary Medical Humanities at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, said: “The mural has transformed the atmosphere of the clinic, helping to create a warm and welcoming environment for our clients and their pets. We are incredibly grateful to the students for their enthusiasm, creativity and hard work in bringing this project to life.” The collaboration demonstrates how students from different disciplines can work together to make a meaningful impact beyond the classroom. By combining creativity with community outreach, the project has enhanced a space that provides invaluable support to some of the most vulnerable members of the community and their beloved companions.
