Clinical Pathology

We provide a clinical pathology service for internal and external clinicians, research workers and other laboratories

The laboratory is open 9am-5pm each weekday and public holidays (except Christmas and New Year’s day).

We have a series of tests charged at standard rates, and a further series that are charged individually.

The clinical laboratory provides a comprehensive clinical pathology service for veterinary clinicians and researchers.

Staff

The staff consists of 3 qualified Veterinary Clinical Pathologists, 1-2 Clinical Pathology residents, a laboratory manager and 5 technicians.

The laboratory is open 9am-5pm each weekday and public holidays (except Christmas and New Year’s day).

Service

Most tests are carried out in-house and we offer a same day service for most tests on samples received before 10am. Results will be emailed immediately on completion.

Biochemistry tests

Albumin, ALT, ammonia, amylase, AP, AST, BHB, bile acids, bilirubin (total), bilirubin (conjugated), calcium (total), calcium (ionised), chloride, cholesterol, CK, copper, creatinine, gamma globulin, globulin (no charge - derived from TP & alb), GGT, GLDH, GSH-Px, inorganic phosphate, glucose, LDH, lipase, magnesium, NEFA, potassium, protein (total), SIAP, sodium, triglyceride, urea, zinc


We run both routine and individually priced haematology tests.


We offer several different Coagulation tests


A number of faecal tests are available.


A limited number of serology tests are available.


A number of skin analyses are available.


A range of urine analyses are available.


A range of fluid analyses are available.

The Clinical Laboratory provides a comprehensive cytology service including fine needle aspirates, body fluids and bone marrow.

The laboratory

The laboratory is open 9am-5pm from Monday to Friday and is staffed by a technical manager and a team of experienced technicians, with reports provided by qualified Veterinary Clinical Pathologists.

Cytology service

The standard cytology charge includes the examination of Giemsa-stained cytospin/smear preparations. Additional special stains incur an extra charge.

Turnaround time is one working day.

Smears

This includes fine needle aspirates and impression smears.

Fluids

Fluid services include pleural, pericardial, peritoneal, synovial and BAL.
