Accommodation and Transport

Information about your living options and transport in Edinburgh.

Accommodation

Applications for University accommodation will open via the MyEd student portal after you accept your offer.

Accommodation Guarantee

All new undergraduates who are not already residents of Edinburgh are guaranteed an offer of accommodation. All students who qualify for this guarantee have the same chance of being successful, i.e. allocations are not made on a first come, first served basis.

Important information regarding catered accommodation at Pollock Halls of Residence

BVM&S semester dates are slightly different to the majority of other degrees. This means that there are likely to be short periods during the year that the main restaurant will be closed and no meals provided. If you express a preference or receive an offer for catered accommodation at Pollock Halls, you should bear this in mind.

GEP Accommodation Options

Students starting the 4-year Graduate Entry Programme (GEP) in August have a number of accommodation options:

  • University self-catered accommodation for the whole academic year
    • Please see options A and B below
  • University catered accommodation for the first 5 weeks of the programme at Pollock Halls, followed by University self-catered accommodation for the remainder of the academic year in a location specifically identified for GEP students
    • Please see option C below
  • University catered accommodation for the first 5 weeks of the programme at Pollock Halls
    • Please see option D below
    • After these 5 weeks, alternative accommodation can be taken up (be it through the University or private)
  • Independently sourcing private accommodation in Edinburgh. As you will see from the information on our website, privately renting accommodation is becoming increasingly difficult and we would urge you to bear this in mind when considering your options. The city is also extremely busy in August during the Festival.

Transport

The Easter Bush Campus is served by a number of bus routes.

People under the age of 22 can travel for free on public bus services across Scotland. To be eligible, you must apply for a National Entitlement Card (NEC). Applicants must be resident in Scotland for at least 6 months of the year.

For over 22s, monthly bus passes are available. The School subsidises these proportionally in line with your year of study.

Bus passes cover travel to and from campus as well as across the city bus network outside of study time.
