Julie is a lecturer in Farm Animal Health and Production at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies.

Julie comes from farming background and was heavily involved with the family dairy and sheep farm in central Scotland.

She graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2002, following which she went into mixed veterinary practice in Dumfriesshire where she stayed for 7 years mainly doing cattle work.

In 2009 she joined the Farm team at R(D)SVS. In 2012 she graduated from the University of Liverpool with a Diploma in Bovine Reproduction.

The majority of her work time is spent in the Dairy Herd Health and Productivity Service (DHHPS) providing interpretation of metabolic results and giving advice to dairy, beef and sheep farmers. Alongside this she is involved with the training of undergraduate veterinary students and enjoys getting onto farm with the final year vet students.

Teaching

Julie gives lectures in the Farm Animal Clinical Course in 4th year, and also teaches hands-on practical farm animal medicine and surgery as part of the Farm Animal Practice and Herd/Flock Health rotations in final year on subjects such as herd health, routine fertility visits and foot trimming.
