The winter cohort has graduated from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, supported by their families and friends. In a ceremony held at the University of Edinburgh’s McEwan Hall, which was live streamed for those unable to attend, over 90 students received their awards.Students from the School, including the Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Systems and Roslin Institute, received undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research awards.The School offers a diverse range of postgraduate opportunities, including many online distance-learning programmes that attract students from around the world. As a result, graduation is an opportunity for graduands to travel to Edinburgh to meet their peers in person for the first time. Celebration eventThe day before the ceremony, students and their families joined a celebration hosted by the School at the Easter Bush Campus. Director of Postgraduate Teaching, Dr Fiona Borthwick, presented prizes for best dissertations, and visitors were able to take a campus tour.Honorary awardsThe School celebrated honorary awards which were conferred during graduations. Professor Stuart J Reid, Principal of the Royal Veterinary College and a specialist in veterinary epidemiology, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery. The philanthropic organisation Community Jameel and its Director George Richards were recognised as a University Benefactor, for the creation of The Jameel Observatory for Food Security Early Action, and its mission to tackle the growing threat posed by climate disasters to people in the world’s drylands. Graduation is the celebration of all our students have achieved. It is wonderful to be able to welcome so many of our distance learners to Edinburgh and share in their success.
