Robert Aruho - MSc International Animal Health*

A wildlife veterinarian and conservation leader dedicated to restoring endangered African wildlife with a particular focus on the recovery of Kenya’s critically endangered mountain bongo.

Robert, Head of Conservancy and Mountain Bongo Recovery Program, Kenya, says:

"I have dedicated my career to restoring endangered African wildlife, guided by the belief that conservation must be proactive, science-driven, and inclusive of local communities. After earning my Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine from Makerere University, I pursued an MSc in International Animal Health at the University of Edinburgh. The experience broadened my global perspective and strengthened my understanding of disease ecology, wildlife health systems, and the critical interface between conservation and community livelihoods.

Over the past decade, I have worked across East and Southern Africa in species reintroductions, wildlife health management, and ecosystem restoration. I currently serve at Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy as Head of Conservancy and lead the Mountain Bongo Recovery Program in Kenya. I oversee breeding and rewilding of critically endangered mountain bongo and have established strategic partnerships to accelerate population recovery. My work integrates solid veterinary science, conservation leadership, and long-term ecosystem stewardship. Whether monitoring wildlife in the field, coordinating international collaborations, or engaging local communities, I remain driven by one goal: ensuring future generations inherit thriving landscapes where wildlife and people coexist sustainably."
