Fertility Minder

Failures in fertility efficiency are common and represent one of the main reasons for loss of productivity and income in dairy herds.

Improving fertility efficiency provides one of the easiest and cheapest ways of improving productivity.

This cannot be done unless the cause(s) of the inefficiencies are identified allowing control measures to be accurately and effectively targeted.

Our service

The Fertility Minder service provides a detailed and in-depth analysis of fertility in the herd over the previous 1-2 years.

This enables an assessment to be made of the management, of heat detection efficiency and of conception rate by season, lactation number, day of the week, bull used, AI operator, service number and days calved.

Whether nutrition is involved can be demonstrated or eliminated.

Requirements

To carry out this analysis the farm records or copies of them need to be sent to the DHHPS in Edinburgh. Required are cow ID, lactation number, calving date(s), service dates with bull ID and AI operator and pregnancy diagnosis results.

Contact with the Edinburgh office is advisable to confirm what is required and in what form before going too far.

A written report and recommendations together with the analysis figures are sent to the farmer and his veterinary surgeon.

The recommendations may include the desirability of greater control of fertility through a regular input/output bureau system. The Fertility Minder service provides this as well at additional cost.
