The information below provides a glimpse into what vet student life is like and the steps we need to take together to ensure your successful enrollment. You're not expected to remember all of this and we are here to answer any questions you have along the way. We are excited to have you on board and look forward to working with you throughout your BVM&S journey. Welcome Week Timetable 5 Year Programme: [scald=179957:sdl_editor_representation {"alt":"","caption":"5 Year Welcome Timetable 2024"}] Getting here Vet School is based out at our Easter Bush Campus which is about 40 minutes bus ride from our Central Campus. Bus numbers 15, 37 (Easter Bush), 47B and 141 all stop at the Vet School bus stop. For information about how to get to the Easter Bush Campus, please visit the Lothian Bus website here: Lothian Buses Don't worry too much about getting here for your first few days, coaches have been arranged from the central area. Exact pick-up location can be found on your Welcome Week Timetable. If you are aged under 22, bus travel in Scotland is free of charge if you have a Young Scot card; you can apply for this card once you arrive in Edinburgh if you are eligible. The Vet School also offers a bus subsidy which reflects the total days travelled to campus depending on your Year Group; there will be more information on this once you arrive. Parking permits are also available; you will need to make an application for a permit once you’ve arrived. Permits on the Easter Bush campus are free, but without a permit you may still get a parking ticket. Please note that the travel subsidy is not available for private motor vehicle users. The Student Immigration Service is a vital service for all of our international students arriving in Edinburgh. Please get in touch with them for any questions about your visa, BRP, or working during your studies: Student Immigration Service Enrolment completion & attendance confirmation Enrolment and attendance confirmation are completed during your first few days with us, but you will need to complete your annual registration before you arrive. Guidance for the online part of registration is linked below. You will receive your student card at your "Registration onto the BVM&S Programme" during Welcome Week. Your student card also doubles up as a security pass if you require access into buildings after normal working hours. This isn’t about locking you out but keeping you and your possessions safe. ACTION: Bring photo ID on your first day Guidance on online registration: Register as a Student Collect clothing, notes & locker key Clothing You don't need to buy everything all at once so please refer to guidance in Booklet 2 with regards to protective clothing, before making any plans. 5 Year Programme: Our student led Final Year Club (FYC) have historically provided a clothing order service for new students to the 5 year programme, which commences in September. The FYC representatives will be in touch with you soon about this but you can also buy direct from Hewats. Please see Booklet 2 for more information. If you do order clothing via the FYC this is normally available to collect during Welcome Week (check you Welcome Week timetable when it becomes available). If you have any queries regarding FYC or your order please direct these to the contact on the order form. If you want to arrange purchase of your own clothing from your own suppliers then you are free to do this. A list of what you will need was made available in Booklet 2. GEP: You can buy direct from Hewats. Please see Booklet 2 for compulsory clothing list and link to Hewats. Course Notes Course notes will be made available online only this year. If you would like printed notes these will be provided on request and once paid for through the VTO Shop. Locker If you wish to use a locker to store your items on campus for the duration of your studies, you can purchase a key through the VTO Shop (button below). You need to select “Locker Key Deposit” and pay £3.00 for a key – please note that the deposit is non-refundable. No payment - no locker! Once paid, you can collect the key on your first day on campus, along with your student card and badge plus other items we'll have for you. VTO Shop School events The Vet School hosts a variety of events to make your time here memorable. Here's a preview of some of the event you can look forward to: Campus Sports Day: A fun-filled day of friendly competition, prizes, food and drinks. Pre-Burns Supper: An evening celebration leading up to the traditional Burns Night. Monthly Welfare Activities: Organised by the Dick Vet Students Union (DVSU), these events focus on student wellbeing and community building. Making Of A Better You (MOABY) week: Hosted by VetPALS in January/February, MOABY is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your study skills techniques and reflect on your academic practices. Additionally, our Student Societies and Final Year Club (FYC) organise lots of events throughout the year, ensuring there's something for everyone. Don't miss out on the Dick Vet Societies Fair, happening at lunchtime on Tuesday, 10th September in the Atrium of the Vet School Building. This is your chance to explore various Dick Vet student societies and find out how you can get involved. EUSA Edinburgh University Student Association (EUSA) is here to support all students throughout their time at the University of Edinburgh. September Welcome Week is packed with events for you to get involved in. We encourage you to enjoy yourself and make every effort to meet students from different backgrounds, cultures and courses. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn something new and make lasting connections. If you are a GEP student, Welcome Week coincides with your revision week before your first exams. However, if you can, try to participate in some of the events.
