The purpose of this research project is to elucidate the genetic basis of the susceptibility and resistance and, ultimately, to improve the disease resistance in aquaculture species by applying the findings to a genetic breeding programme. Background I majored in aquatic animal diseases for my BSc and MSc and during that time I had studied reproductive biology in Nile tilapia in Professor Joon Yeong Kwon’s lab at Sun Moon University for five years. Then I went to the Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling, to study further on control of reproduction in fish by targeting primordial germ cells using CRISPR/Cas9 under the supervision of Prof Herve Migaud and Dr Andrew Davie. I’m now using this genome editing technique to elucidate genetic background of viral disease resistance in fish as a postdoc since March 2019.
