Research at the Highlander Lab

I have been working on the construction of a sorghum breeding program aimed at the selection of bioactive compounds that can help in the treatment of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and obesity.

Goals:

  • GWAS model for gene identification;
  • Genomic selection multi-trait model to accelerate the breeding program;
  • Selection indices for identifying the best genotypes.

Background

I'm an Agronomist and have a Master's degree in Genetics and Breeding from the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), Brazil.

During my major and master’s degree, I worked with tissue culture and molecular markers in sugarcane, palm oil, macauba palm, and passion fruit cultures. I'm a PhD candidate in Genetics and Plant Breeding at “Luiz de Queiroz” College of Agriculture, University of São Paulo (ESALQ/USP) Brazil. I'm dedicated to studies of quantitative genetics, genome-wide association, QTL mapping, and genomic selection, and I'm a researcher at Sugarcane Technology Center (CTC).
