MacRae Lab

The MacRae lab group undertakes research in bone formation and vascular calcification, with an emphasis on the metabolic pathways that underpin these processes. We examine the mechanisms of differentiation and calcification in osteoblasts, vascular smooth muscle cells, and valvular interstitial cells.

Dr Vicky MacRae holds a joint appointment with Anglia Ruskin University and the Roslin Institute at the University of Edinburgh, where she explores cardiovascular calcification in her research. The MacRae lab research employs transgenic models and clinical samples, utilising a range of molecular, histological, and imaging techniques. The elucidation of new mechanisms of bone formation and vascular calcification may identify new potential therapeutic targets in both human and animal disease.
