A dedicated resource centre to support other researchers working in Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy. Edinburgh has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy (TSE) research and has a dedicated resource centre supporting other researchers working in this area. TSE research at Edinburgh TSE research has been a major focus within Edinburgh for over 50 years via the Neuropathogenesis Unit of the Institute for Animal Health (now within The Roslin Institute) and the National CJD Research and Surveillance Unit. Our research spans from understanding and preventing the spread of prion diseases in farmed animals and humans through to the development and use of small and large animal models and in vitro systems. We also aim to identify the key mechanisms that preserve healthy brain function and those that contribute to neurodegeneration. Resources and Expertise Considerable expertise exists within our research programmes on may aspects of TSE (prion diseases) and other neurodegenerative disorders and we provide a valuable and wide range of materials for research worldwide, from mice to antibodies and infectious agents. We are pleased to continue to engage with TSE researchers as well as those working in the wider family of protein misfolding diseases.
