Led by Maria Martinez Castillero SummaryLivestock and aquaculture protein demand is increasing due to human population growth, yet current production depends on unsustainable soy and fishmeal imports. Insect protein has huge potential to address this problem. As in other agricultural sectors, genetics will play a key role in improving insect production. This project will address data-systems engineering and quantitative genetics aspects for an insect genetics operation. It will leverage big data through novel computational and bioinformatic approaches to collect and analyse genetically complex traits. Combined, these aspects will enable the development of a full-stack of scalable breeding systems and the software required to implement it. This article was published on 2024-09-02
