Christine Grant

PhD Student

Christine Grant hails from Connecticut in the United States. Previous to joining the University of Edinburgh, she completed her BA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing (2012) at Emerson College (Boston, MA) as well as her AS in Engineering Science (2018) from Manchester Community College (Manchester, CT). She finished her undergraduate adventures with a BS in Biological Engineering (2020) from Mississippi State University (Starkville, MS). During her time at Manchester Community College and Mississippi State University (MSU), Christine cultivated her passion for research in AMR. She joined the Biophysics REU program at Princeton University in the summers of 2017 where she worked in the Brynildsen lab on persister cell populations. Through the same program, Christine travelled to the Center for Nanobiology and Structural Biology in Nové Hrady, Czechia where she created protocols for using the new diffractometer under Dr. Rudy Ettrich. At MSU, Christine joined the Lauren Priddy lab and studied drug delivery via hydrogels to treat Staphylococcus aureus osteomyelitis.

Christine grew up raising Nubian and Saanen dairy goats with her mother. Challenges from S. aureus mastitis led her to pursue research in the field. Her current project is "Investigation into the role of biofilm in Staphylococcus aureus mastitis". In her spare time, Christine plays video games and practices archery.
