Large Animal Research and Imaging Facility

Welcome to the University of Edinburgh's Large Animal Research and Imaging Facility (LARIF) – supporting the future of agricultural and biomedical research.

LARIF is integrated within the Roslin Institute and benefits from close associations with the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh Medical School and Edinburgh Imaging.

Our mission is to bridge the gap between discovery science and real-world impact, advancing animal and human health through ethically sound, scientifically rigorous research.

In addition to academic collaborations, LARIF offers services for commercially oriented projects, including:

  • industry partnerships
  • contract research
  • support for translational development.

LARIF is classified by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) as a National Bioscience Research Infrastructure, highlighting its national importance to agricultural and translational research.
