Macqueen Group, PhD student Image Current research My PhD is part of a 54-month long project named ‘Coolfish’. The project aims to identify the effect of higher-than-natural rearing temperatures in salmon aquaculture on the development and immune function of Atlantic salmon. I am examining these effects on multiple -omics levels, carrying out proteomic, metabolomic, genomic, and epigenetic analysis. Part of my project is based at the Nofima Institute in Tromso, Norway to support the generation of samples under the supervision of Dr Burgerhout. Background I was an undergraduate student at the University of Glasgow from 2015-2019 studying biochemistry. It was during this period that I developed a strong interest in bioinformatics, leading me to complete a masters in the subject. I have now moved to Edinburgh to undertake a PhD in salmon aquaculture using bioinformatic approaches. During the time between my masters and beginning my PhD, I worked in an NHS Covid-19 testing lab. [2015 – 2019] BSc (hons) Biochemistry [2019 - 2020] MSc Bioinformatics [2020 – 2021] NHS COVID testing lab, Aberdeen [2022 – present] PhD in the Macqueen Lab (Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh) Interests, hopes and dreams My non-academic interests range from skydiving to chess to tormenting my neighbours with the bagpipes!
