NERC REP Student / Visiting BSc student Research at the Highlander Lab Image As a NERC REP student, I am evaluating the use of expert systems in the UK Cavalier King Charles population for inferring probabilities of genotypes and phenotypes for two recessive disorders: Dry Eye and Curly Coat, and Episodic Falling. By doing so, we are seeking to: Broaden the knowledge on the health state of a UK national breed, Enable sustainable mating decisions by breeders, and Promote the conservation of the breed. Background I am an undergraduate in Global Food Security and Sustainability, specialising in Animal Science at the University of Edinburgh. I graduates in the summer of 2023. I am specifically interested in: Sustainable application of genetics in animal breeding Food security and sustainability, specifically for livestock production Programming and program development Statistical modelling Science communication Programming language and software: R & RStudio Learning Python MS Office & still learning! Hobbies and personal interests I am happiest when exploring the countryside either on horseback or on foot with a dog by my side. There are so many wonderful places right on our doorstep! Although, I am more of a fair-weather explorer, so, in the winter, I get joy from cooking, singing, and digital art in the warmth of a house.
