Research at the Highlander Lab

Improve genomic prediction models including genotype by environment (GxE) interaction effects

Goals:

  • Find the main environmental covariates driving GxE
  • Improve accuracy of genomic selection
  • Develop an efficient analysis pipeline for large datasets

Background

I have a Bachelor in Agronomy, Masters and PhD in Genetics and Plant Breeding. I have been involved with plant breeding research since I was 19 (more than 10 years now!), always interested in the quantitative genetics side of things. I have worked with several crops (maize, common bean, sugarcane and sweet potato) and also have been developing research using simulated datasets.

I am specifically interested in:

  • Plant breeding
  • Quantitative genetics
  • Autopolyploids

Programming language and software:

  • R and Rstudio
  • Python
  • Genotyping pipelines: Tassel and GATK
