PhD student Research at the Highlander Lab Image My PhD research focuses on the genetics and breeding of global pig breeds. My starting point is to perform population genetics research using the succinct tree sequencing data format. After that, I will conduct quantitative genetic investigations further down the line and ultimately assist with breeding. Background For the past seven years, I have been educated at China Agriculture University. My major was Animal Science, and in the third year, I minored in Data Science. My undergraduate thesis studied genetic diversity and degree of endangerment in indigenous Chinese breeds. I mainly programmed software for estimating effective population size. Then, as I worked toward my master's degree, I was involved in research on inbreeding depression of complex traits and the construction of a barcode SNP database of Chinese native pigs using machine learning technologies. I am specifically interested in: Quantitative genetics and Genomics Machine learning in biology Pig breeding Programming language and software: R & RStudio Python Hobbies and personal interests Photography Handiwork Ball games Relevant links GitHub ORCID This article was published on 2024-09-02
