PhD Student Silken joined LBEP as part of the Wellcome Trust One Health Models of Disease programme in 2024. For her PhD project, Silken is using a transdisciplinary, mixed methods approach to explore the One Health risks of AMR in Scotland's freshwater wild swimming sites. Silken completed her BSc (Hons) in Microbiology at the University of Victoria in Canada. Her Honours dissertation involved using 3D bioprinted human tissues as models of wound healing and bacterial skin infection. During her undergraduate degree, she also did a co-op working as a Research Assistant at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada studying AMR spread across the One Health continuum in peri-urban, and high-density agricultural settings. In her free time, Silken enjoys bouldering, hiking and camping, and trying new foods. This article was published on 2026-03-30
