LBEP public engagement and research update at the event As Director of Edinburgh Infectious Diseases, Prof. J. Ross Fitzgerald chaired the first session of the meeting as well as introducing Frank Møller Aarestrup (Technical University of Denmark) who was the keynote speaker at this event showcasing the breadth of antimicrobial resistance research taking place at the University of Edinburgh. Dr. Natalie Ring, a PostDoc in LBEP, gave an engaging and informative overview of the DOGStails project that focuses on improving veterinary diagnostics by using Nanopore sequencing technology. It will be exciting to see how well the new workflow holds up when tested on more clinical samples in the future. During the public engagement session, Dr. Amy Pickering showcased the Hostbusters game alongside volunteers from Dr. Katerina Guschanski’s group (School of Biological Sciences). We had a lot of interest in the game and it was great to encourage others to use this public engagement resource themselves at future events.
