Kamilia Hanani

MSc Student

Kamilia joined LBEP from January to June 2024 to conduct a research project as the final part of her Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Infectious Diseases and One Health. For six months, she focused on investigating the occurrence of large-scale genome structural variations (SVs) in six different Gram-positive bacteria by analysing bacterial whole-genome sequences produced by Oxford Nanopore sequencing.

Prior to her master's, she studied microbiology for her undergraduate degree, then worked as a laboratory scientist focusing on COVID-19 diagnostics and whole-genome sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 in Indonesia, her home country. Kamilia's scientific interest lies in the utilisation of genomic and epidemiological data to develop insights into evolution, distribution, and pathogenesis of infectious organisms. Kamilia is also interested in the One Health approach for combatting emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases as well as antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
