As a PhD student, I am working on a project named AlleleFetch to estimate allele and genotype probabilities in dog pedigrees using a Bayesian network technique. This technique can work with different sources of information and combine them to help make decisions. We will develop and test AlleleFetch using the following three examples:

  • single-gene condition with genotype information with a simple penetrance function
  • single-gene condition with genotype and phenotype information with simple penetrance functions, and
  • multi-gene condition with complex genotype-to-phenotype penetrance function.

Background

I am an undergraduate in Global Food Security and Sustainability, specialising in Animal Science at the University of Edinburgh. I graduated in the summer of 2023.

I am specifically interested in:

  • Sustainable application of genetics in animal breeding
  • Food security and sustainability, specifically for livestock production
  • Programming and program development
  • Statistical modelling
  • Science communication

Programming language and software:

  • R  & RStudio
  • Learning Python
  • MS Office
  • & still learning!

Hobbies and personal interests

I am happiest when exploring the countryside either on horseback or on foot with a dog by my side. There are so many wonderful places right on our doorstep! Although, I am more of a fair-weather explorer, so, in the winter, I get joy from cooking, singing, and digital art in the warmth of a house.
