PhD student Image I graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria in 2010. I served as a corps clinician with the Nigerian Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for a year at the University of Maiduguri Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Nigeria in 2011. During the service year, I was exposed to small animal, large animal and wildlife medicine, surgery, ambulatory services and diagnostics. Upon completion of the youth corps, I obtained the Commonwealth scholarships to study a Master degree in Animal Biosciences at the University of Edinburgh in 2012. I successfully finished in 2013 and got a PhD scholarship in 2014 to study Quantitative Genetics and Genetics at the same University and affiliated to the Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC). My interest in livestock production and medicine triggered my career path to study genetics and genomics in dairy cattle. With this, I aim to improve and combine my knowledge of veterinary medicine, animal breeding and genetics to enhancing food security and the livelihood of rural farmers in Africa, Asia and other continents.
