PhD student (SRUC based) Image In 2013 I graduated from the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (Portugal) in Biology. As part of my final year as an undergraduate and as my final year project, I studied the effects of different levels of fibre in the diet of rabbits. It was this project that inspired me to pursue a Masters in Animal Science. In that same year I was enrolled in the Animal Science MSc course in the same University where I completed my undergraduate course. During my two years stint at my Masters, I developed a deep interest in animal improvement. After some discussion with my professor, I decided I would work on the animal improvement of a Portuguese beef cattle breed. At the end of 2015 I successfully completed the Masters programme. In 2016 I applied for a PhD studentship in SRUC, jointly funded by SRUC and the Moredun Foundation. I have been working on my PhD since September of that year. My main interests are animal improvement, genetics and genomics. I am currently working on quantitative genomic solutions to breeding for disease resistance in sheep.
