PhD Student Image Mariya was a PhD student at the Fitzgerald lab and graduated in 2017. Her research in LBEP focused on co-infection between Influenza A virus and Staphylococcus aureus. Mariya finished her undergraduate degree at the University of Edinburgh in 2013, with honours in Infectious diseases. In 2016, Mariya placed second in the Microbiology society’s Sir Howard Dalton Young microbiologist of the year competition. When she’s not in the lab, Mariya enjoys reading and spending time with her cat. After graduating, Maria went on to work as a postdoctoral associate in Dr David Heinrich's at the University of Western Ontario.
