Based at the University of Edinburgh’s Easter Bush Campus, the Roslin Institute are seeking an enthusiastic individual for the first year of a new internship programme to support the setup and delivery of public engagement activities at the Easter Bush Science Outreach Centre (EBSOC).

Fixed Term, 10 month contract

 

This fixed-term internship would be an ideal opportunity for a school or college leaver who is keen to gain experience in a scientific support role and build their science skills before pursuing higher education or work in science. 

Individuals who are offer holders for the University of Edinburgh’s Biological Sciences and Biomedical Sciences degree courses in 2021/22 are encouraged to apply, with offer deferral available to the successful applicant.

The Opportunity

The successful applicant will join the Roslin Institute’s Public Engagement team for a ten-month Internship in the Easter Bush Science Outreach Centre, a purpose-built engagement laboratory where we deliver a variety of hands-on science workshops to school pupils and the wider public. The role will initially focus on supporting the team with technical and administrative tasks, but as the Internship progresses you will be encouraged to get more involved in the development and delivery of our programme of public engagement.  

You will need to be interested in science and enthusiastic about hands-on learning and science engagement. Successful candidates will have basic laboratory skills and a strong interest in developing these skills further, and good all-round communication skills.

  • Demonstrable interest in biology and/or animal science
  • Enthusiastic, reliable and willing to learn 
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Experience of high school level laboratory work and basic laboratory skills
  • Ability to develop good working relationships with colleagues
