Internship gives insight into data modelling and supportive working cultures. An undergraduate student has spent a work placement with Supporting Evidence-based Interventions in Livestock (SEBI Livestock), an organisation that seeks to improve livelihoods for smallholders in low and middle-income countries through good investments.Grace Kiruja, a student in Global Agriculture and Food Security, spent three weeks working with SEBI Livestock at their offices at the University of Edinburgh’s Easter Bush Campus, participating by working remotely.Ms Kiruja was tasked with working on a guidance system for agricultural research centres, on where and how to lodge data on open-access platforms.Applying researchThe tasks allowed the student to apply her research skills to a real-world project, and to learn about data modelling.She was impressed by SEBI Livestock’s close-knit, supportive culture.Everyone was trying to make things easier for everyone else, with support and ideas always only an email away.
