Death of Professor Alan Raybould

We mourn the sudden loss of our friend and colleague, and celebrate the contribution he made to our work.

It is with great sadness we learned of the death of our much-loved and respected colleague, Professor Alan Raybould, on 5 October.

Professor Raybould, who was Chair of Innovation in the Life Sciences, left a big impression on colleagues and students alike.

He joined the University in 2019 and divided his time between the Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Systems and the Innogen Institute/School of Social and Political Sciences.

Professor Raybould’s interests centred on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of regulation of products of new technology in agriculture.

He had a sharp mind, a talent for deconstructing complex issues and yet was patient, kind, self-effacing, and generous with his time and support.

We are privileged to have had Professor Raybould as part of our team and will miss him greatly.
