2019 Public Lending Library Participants

Hear what our 2019 participants thought about being part of this project, how it impacted on them and what they gained.

Ellie Girgis | Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies | Undergraduate

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my participation with the EBSOC’s Public Lending Library and the guidance I have received has been invaluable. The stepwise nature of the programme was assuring, easy to follow, and taught me a great deal about the design process for projects such as these. From explaining the need to adapt my learning outcomes to suit my audience, to demonstrating the importance of risk assessments and evaluation, to helping de-jargonise my language, the EBSOC team has helped turn an initial idea into a finished product. I am very grateful to be part of the Public Lending Library, a platform that will allow my workshop to continue reaching new audiences, both today and in the future.”

Emma Tivey | The Roslin Institute | PhD Student

"Having done very little public engagement prior to this project, I have found it has helped me to realise i) the importance of reaching out to communities/ the public with the message of my

research, and ii) how I can go about doing this.

Being part of the project has helped me to develop the necessary skills to be able to talk to members of the public, and even colleagues, about the work I do and what it means in the larger context. I hope this will help me not only with my own work but also to convey messages about the other important work that goes on in the Institute."

"I really enjoy the training sessions- they remind me of why science is exciting!"

Scott Dillon | The Roslin Institute | PhD Student

“Being involved with the lending library was a huge privilege. It not only allowed me to develop my own skills in public engagement, but also apply them to a novel and challenging project. I’m proud to have contributed to the project and hope that these resources will be useful for scientific outreach for years to come.”

Danny Schnitzler | Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences | PhD Student

"It was interesting to see how a single activity can be used for different age groups and in different settings."
